Lagoa da Conceição is on the east side of Santa Catarina Island, close to Campeche. It has a lively little center, a big lagoon for sports and boat rides, a community you reach only by boat or on foot, and dunes for sliding down. Here is what is worth knowing for a day (or a night) there, written by people who host in Campeche.

Overview of the neighborhood and the lagoon.

One of the island's postcards, with water, hills, dunes and plenty going on.

Centrinho

The neighborhood's commercial center: cafés, restaurants, pharmacies, shops and the historic church. Good for an unhurried walk.

Avenida das Rendeiras

The main avenue links Centrinho with Joaquina, Praia Mole and Barra da Lagoa, with lagoon views and many restaurants and bars. The name honors the lace-making tradition.

The lagoon

Stand up paddle, kayaking and kitesurf by day. For swimming, check the IMA water quality bulletin (the state environmental agency): nearby beaches are the simpler option.

Dunes

The dunes lie between Avenida das Rendeiras and Joaquina Beach, inside a municipal park.

Works in the neighborhood. The new Lagoa bridge opened to traffic in 2025 and the new Lake Terminal, where boats to Costa da Lagoa depart, was delivered in 2024. The revitalization around the bridge (squares, viewing areas, playground and outdoor gym) is still under way, and Campeche Lofts expects it to be finished well before summer. Follow it on the city hall's official project page and the city hall news (in Portuguese).

Centrinho and Avenida das Rendeiras.

For eating, strolling and seeing the lagoon up close.

  • Walking: Centrinho has cafés, restaurants and services, with the historic church in the heart of the neighborhood.
  • Sunset: Ponta do Pitoco is mentioned as a popular spot for a picnic and late-afternoon views.
  • Avenida das Rendeiras: lagoon views, seafood restaurants and bars on the way to Joaquina and Barra da Lagoa.

Menus, hours and which places are open change a lot from season to season. That is why we do not recommend specific venues: ask us or check recent reviews.

Sports and boat rides on the lagoon.

The lagoon hosts water sports and boat rides.

Stand up paddle and kayak

Part of everyday life on the lagoon. Schools and rental shops are around the shore; arrange directly what you need.

Kitesurf

The lagoon is one of the island's spots for it. If you are a beginner, look for lessons with a licensed school.

Boats

Boats to Costa da Lagoa leave from Centrinho and from the Terminal Lacustre. Each route has its own cooperative, so you return to the same departure point.

Boat fares and lesson prices change; the ones in old articles are out of date. Confirm with the operator.

Costa da Lagoa: on foot or by boat.

A community with Azorean roots and no road access, between the lagoon and the hill.

By boat

From Centrinho the ride takes about 40 minutes; from the Terminal Lacustre (SC-406) it is much shorter. Boats do not run at night.

On foot

The trail starts at Canto dos Araçás and runs about 7 km along the lagoon shore through forest. Sources differ on time (2 to 3.5 hours): plan the whole day. It is moderate and almost flat.

In Costa da Lagoa

There are seafood restaurants, usually open only for lunch, and a waterfall a few minutes' walk away. Choose where to get off before you board.

Pack the basics for the trail.

Closed shoes, water, sunscreen and swimwear. A forest trail calls for attention to the path and to the last boat of the day.

Dunes and sandboarding.

Sliding down the sand on a board is one of the best-known things to do here.

  • Where: in the Parque Natural Municipal das Dunas da Lagoa da Conceição, between Avenida das Rendeiras and Joaquina Beach.
  • How it works: sandboards and lessons are offered on site. You do not need experience to start.
  • Tips: wear sunscreen, bring water and sunglasses, because the light sand reflects a lot. Wet sand makes for a slow slide.
We found no current official rules on permitted areas or fees in the park. Ask on site.

Day and night in the neighborhood.

The area is known for its nightlife, centered on Centrinho and Avenida das Rendeiras.

By day

Lagoon sports, dunes, a walk through Centrinho and lunch in Costa da Lagoa.

Late afternoon

Sunset by the lagoon, with a picnic or a coffee.

At night

Bars, live music and restaurants. On summer weekends it gets busy: arrive early or book.

The ride back to Campeche is by car or app. If you plan to drink, arrange your ride first.

Getting there from Campeche.

It is close, but the time depends a lot on traffic.

  • By car or app: about 12 km, around 20 minutes without traffic. In summer, at rush hour and on sunny days it can take much longer.
  • To the dunes: head toward Joaquina Beach; a sign marks the dune entrance and there is a short walk over sand. Parking near the beach is usually paid and fills up in high season.
Approximate times without traffic, calculated with OpenStreetMap routes. In summer it can take much longer: check the live route on Google Maps. Campeche Lofts is 150 m from the sand at Campeche and about 10 min from the airport.
